Experimental Research on the Cutting of Metal Materials by Electrical Discharge Machining with Contact Breaking with Metal Band as Transfer Object

2020

The scientific paper presents practical research carried out by a mixed team of Romanian researchers from universities and the business environment. The research consists in applying the process of cutting metallic materials through electrical discharge machining with contact breaking using a metal band as a transfer object. The research was implemented with the help of a specially designed installation in the laboratory and subsequently all the necessary steps were taken to obtain the patent for it. Various metallic materials were cut using this process, but first of all, high alloy steels. In the global research conducted by the authors, active experimental programs and classic experiment…

Decision Under Uncertainty: An Experimental View

2010

This work (experimental research) is based on Prospect theory, which was developed by D. Kahneman and A. Tversky in 1979. This is one the most quoted and best-documented point of view in economic psychology. First of all, it replaces, once again, the notion of utility with value. But value is defined in terms of gains and losses and this, according with an irrational human tendency to be less willing to gamble with profits than with losses. So, we discover the great importance of these assumptions in the field of risk individual decision-making. n experimental study was conducted to examine the influence of elaboration and the way in which alternatives are phased on decision. Subjects were …

Shopping with virtual hands

2020

Retailers can use virtual reality as a new touchpoint for their customers: within an existent channel or as a new sales channel. Thus, it is crucial to understand the differences and similarities between the physical and the virtual shopping environment. Shopping simulations make it possible to test, observe, and collect data in a controlled, low-cost, and fast way compared to field experiments. However, past studies might have provided biased results due to the characteristics of the sample used. This study analyzes how consumers behave in two virtual shopping tasks. The exploratory, experimental research uses an immersive VR shopping environment and a sample of participants balanced acros…

On the use of SLS tools in sheet metal stamping

2003

Abstract A few rapid tooling technologies have been recently proposed and among them Selective Laser Sintering is probably one of the most relevant and promising. In the paper, the authors report some results of a wide experimental research on the application of SLS tools in sheet metal forming. A wear test was earned out to investigate the progressive degradation of laser-sintered materials in comparison with traditional cold-work steels. In particular SLS tools were utilized in a sheet metal stamping process of S-shaped parts: their performances (in terms of tool wear and dimensional quality of the stamped part) were compared with the ones of traditional tools.

A Survey of the Reliability Methods Approach in Some Codes for Structural Design

1992

Structural codes are documents which are subject to periodic revision and amendment. The main reason of this is due to developments from theoretical and experimental research. The rules and codes for the design of civil engineering structures which are prepared or which are under preparation by different regional and international organizations are under review. Similarities and differences in the approaches to the reliability — oriented concept of calculated safety verifications on the design stages prescribed in the codes (available to author) are presented in this paper.

Designing an Experimental Research Using the Finite Element Analysis Method

2019

In order to study the impact of cutting parameters on the cutting process, several research methods can be used. The first method generally used to understand the cutting process is the experiment from which clear and precise results are obtained. However, experiments can be very costly and time-consuming. The work piece material can be damaged, the processing centre can be busy and people have to spend a lot of time observing the process and recording the data. The objective of this paper is to design an experimental research using the finite element method. In this respect, an orthogonal cutting pattern will be established using this method. This involves determining the type, the method …

The Electromotive Behaviour of Single Zinc Crystals

1929

To NATURE of Jan. 12, 1929, p. 49, Paul A. Anderson communicated some measurements of his on the potentials of single crystals of zinc. The investigation of a possible change of the electrochemical potential with the changing density of zinc atoms on different planes of the crystal was also the aim of an experimental research commenced in October 1928 in the Physicochemical Laboratory of the University of Latvia, in Riga, and is now in progress. The results obtained here do not agree with those of Anderson in so far as no difference could be found in the potentials of different, artificially prepared planes of single crystals of zinc against a neutral zinc sulphate solution. It must be admi…

The 2020 skyrmionics roadmap

2020

The notion of non-trivial topological winding in condensed matter systems represents a major area of present-day theoretical and experimental research. Magnetic materials offer a versatile platform that is particularly amenable for the exploration of topological spin solitons in real space such as skyrmions. First identified in non-centrosymmetric bulk materials, the rapidly growing zoology of materials systems hosting skyrmions and related topological spin solitons includes bulk compounds, surfaces, thin films, heterostructures, nano-wires and nano-dots. This underscores an exceptional potential for major breakthroughs ranging from fundamental questions to applications as driven by an inte…

LA TUTORÍA UNIVERSITARIA ENTRE LATINOAMÉRICA Y EUROPA: EL CASO DE LA UNIVERSIDAD AUSTRAL (ARGENTINA) Y EL DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE ESTUDIOS DE PALERMO (I…

2021

From ethnobotany to experimental research: the therapeutic properties of Sicilian hellebore

2018

In Sicily, the genus Helleborus (Ranuculaceae) is only represented by H. bocconei subsp. siculus (= H. bocconei subsp. intermedius). In some mountain areas of the Island, the rhizomes of this plant, harvested in a particular month of the year (May) and dried, are used in traditional veterinary practice for treating pneumonia in domestic animals, cattle and horses in particular. The same usage – with rhizomes of other Helleborus species or subspecies – is reported from various other areas of Mediterranean Europe. Phytochemical tests have permitted the isolation and characterization of new biologically active molecules. The extracts of rhizomes and aerial parts of the plant were shown antibac…
